fisher price baby toy Important Hint

I was against getting a lot of baby gear with lights and music and didn’t register for it, but someone gave this to me, describing it as “crack for babies.” Probably not the best analogy, but I’m really glad I have the soother. It plays really nice, soothing music along with nature sounds. You can set it for just nature sounds if you don’t like the music. And the soft blue light and gently moving animals help distract baby long enough for him to forget that he doesn’t want to go to sleep and drift off into dreamland. It’s also so easy to operate that my baby figured out how to turn it on from about 3 months old. Sometimes I’ll hear it come on in the middle of the night if he wakes up, and it helps get him back to sleep.

We love this aquarium! We got this at a baby shower before my daughter was born and have used it from Day 1. Although I gather I am reporting on an older version (purchased in 2007), the answer to the oft-reported problem of poor battery life is to turn OFF the features your baby doesn’t need. SO, after initially using the thing with all the bubbles and lights and sounds, for the past year or so we’ve just used the music - and when she needs soothing on wakening in the middle of the night, our (now 20-month old) daughter turns it on herself. She has been doing this since before she could pull herself up - initially by kicking at it. Using only the music, the batteries last a LONG time. So for all those folks who complain it’s TOO stimulating, well, turn off some of the features and save the batteries as well! :-) If it’s meant to be a soother for an older child, the lights may be too bright in the middle of the night. So turn them off! For an infant swaddled with nothing they can really DO, watching the bubbles and fish helps train their eye muscles, and listening to the classical music (yes, including Mozart) helps their brains learn about patterns (and eventually, apparently, math). 20 minutes is about the right lengh of time for us - our daughter is asleep by then most of the time, and no sense wasting the batteries OR having her learn only to sleep with music on. Earlier we occasionally would have to start it up a second time, until she got used to our sleep routine. As to durability, we are still using ours, and all the featuers still work in spite of kicks and being pulled on, etc.
Oh, and when she doesn’t want it any more, I plan to move it into our bedroom…. it’s that soothing!

The aquarium was only 1/3 full of liquid and did not give the effect of an aquarium. I was so disappointed and my son did not even put it up in the baby’s crib…A lot of money for nothing.

    Pros -
1 - Bubbles - just enough action to get their attention
2 - Lots of available adjustments to volume, music type, etc
3 - Stays on long time (18 minutes)
4 - Easily attaches to crib

Only Con - Placement of buttons
The buttons you use to adjust the volume/music/etc are on the top/back of unit so its a little hard to adjust the settings when its attached to the back of the crib.

Overall - It got my 1 year old to fall asleep on his own! The first night was same as usual (when put to bed awake but tired, he cried & screamed for 10-15 minutes before giving up) but we stuck with it and by the second night, he understood what was going on (cried for about 1 min). Its part of our routine now! Bought another one for the beach house - consistency : ) Now, we say “time to go ni-ni” and we lay him down in the crib and he looks over to the aquarium waiting for us to turn it on! My mom says its the best thing we have ever bought : )

Poor engineering causes this toy to eat batteries…four “C” size at a time which is NOT cheap nor good for the environment. For that, it gets two stars taken away. If you leave it on just music, it will play forever, however to get the movement and bubbles, it draws a lot of power.

My son would sit in his crib and “watch TV” as we called it. As soon as he could pull up, he was much more interested with the adult buttons on the top!

A few times, we heard the soft music playing through the baby monitor and knew he had gotten up and turned it on. Very precious.

After our son was born he went through a period of which he only went to sleep if you rocked him in the rocking chair. A friend of mine offered to let me use her “Fisher-Price Ocean Wonders Aquarium”. WHAT A RELIEF!! The night we used it, he went to sleep right away. We have been using it ever since. This is a great product. He loves the motion of the fish and bubbles. The lights are not too bright, so that he is able to fall asleep. The sound can be adjusted so that it is not too loud. It has 3 different sound volumes and the lights and sound get softer and softer as it plays. Our son woke up after another product just shut off…this one does it gradually. Overall, invest in this product. This one is worth the money!

My now 17 month old son received this for his first birthday. He seemed to enjoy it, but was still a bit young for it. I figured he’d like it much more once he learned to walk, and was able to get on and off it himself. I was right.

Once I felt comfortable that he wouldn’t hurt himself on this, I put it in his playroom, and he uses it everyday! He LOVES to bounce…has since he was a tiny little baby. So this has proved to be the perfect toy for him! I placed it by the window in his playroom, so he’ll sit on while looking out the window, and just bounce away! It’s great for getting him to use up some of the never-ending energy he seems to have!

Overall, a GREAT toy for toddlers. I definitely wouldn’t get it till your child is walking on their own, but once they reach the point where they can get on and off it on their own, they’ll have tons of fun on this!
