  This camera is great. I bought it for my little nephew. I live in Germany and he is in NC and he wanted to send me pictures. He is 3 years old and this is perfect for him.

  I am returning this. My cell phone (which is 3 yrs old) takes better pictures. Between the poor image quality and the really crappy lense, you have to hold still and focus on something with decent lighing. The flash almost always over exposes. Too much for a 3 yr old. The button in the front is also very difficult for him. I know he likes to take pictures and gets the concept, because he’ll do it with my phone. He lost interest in this within 5 minutes. 1.3 Megapixels?? Why?
  I do give credit for the durability, and the overall design, but they could have put a better camera in it. The throw aways at CVS are 10 times better in picture quality.

  We got this for our then 3 year old for christmas and it didn’t even work for a week. It shuts off before you have a chance to even take any pictures. It got thrown in a junk pile at our house and I just found it but it’s probably too late for me to get any kind of refund or exchange.

  I was debating between buying one of these or getting my 3-year-old daughter a similarly priced store-brand digital camera for adults, when my father-in-law got her this Fisher-Price Kid-Tough camera. After seeing the pictures this takes, I KNOW the similarly priced store brand adult camera would take MUCH better pictures. But the real selling point here is that this camera would be difficult to break by accident, and that it’s easier to use and impossible to goof up the settings.

  Given that it’s otherwise easier to use, I was frustrated that the shutter button is so small, recessed, and generally hard for a little finger to press. My daughter’s getting better after snapping some shots with it, but I would have expected a big, raised button (maybe even on the back to be pressed by thumb) for taking the shot.

  If I had read reviews on-line before opening the package, I might have suggested we take it back for one of the VTech Preschool Learning Kidizoom Plus cameras, as they seem to have more features (maybe even a timestamp in the file metadata?) and generally better reviews. But my daughter loves her camera, and the pictures are good enough that we can see what she was trying to shoot and even print them out for the fridge. It’s worth the price for that.

  Pros:
  -Virtually unbreakable and waterproof
  -Easy for little hands to hold
  -No settings for kids to mess up

  Cons:
  -Terrible pictures
  -Dim LCD Screen/Bad low-light pictures
  -The shutter button can be hard to press
  -No date/time saved to metadata (neither the camera or the computer you transfer pics to have any idea what date/time they were taken).

  Note:
  My anti-virus software said the SETUP.EXE program that the camera tried to run when we plugged it in was a Trojan horse. I know anti-virus programs throw a lot of false positives, but I didn’t run it just in case.

  We bought one of these cameras for our son’s second birthday, and it worked for three days before breaking — and not from a drop or anything, it just stopped taking pictures. Fisher-Price replaced it (thank you), but now that it works consistently, we’ve discovered another problem — the delete button is as big as, as accessible as, and looks just like the navigation buttons.

  We just had a twenty-minute crying fit that ended with us having to take the camera away and hide it because he accidentially deleted a picture he took last night and I didn’t have time to back up to a computer.

  Why would they design it like this? I wish I could recommend this camera more highly because on the whole our son really likes it, but between the first one breaking and trying to explain that to him, and now the drama with deleting pictures…I sort of wish we hadn’t bought it.

  All other virtues are of little value when you have a camera that takes terrible pictures! Who cares how easy to use or durable the thing is if you can’t use it for the primary intended use of taking pictures! Don’t waste your money.

  My niece loved the camera. Six months later and it still works. She is 5 and always wants to take pictures, now she can.

  This is an excellent gift for children… they learn how to take pictures using their own camera.

  My 7 year old grandaughter was thrilled with her camera - very easy to use. Fun to have her very own camera. Very durable.

  My thoughts:

  *Buttons are easy to use but not too easy. It’s hard for a kid to accidentally turn it on (you have to hold down two buttons at the same time) or accidentally delete pictures (you have to confirm a delete by pushing the delete button a second time. It can be a little hard to find the shutter. Sometimes I have to guide my daughter’s finger to it.

  *The picture quality is low but it’s good enough. Really what kids want is to look at their pictures on the little LCD screen and the picture quality (and size of the screen) is perfectly fine for that. The quality of the pictures is also good enough to look at on a computer. We haven’t printed any and likely won’t waste the money (because the size of the picture would look like garbage), but my daughter has grown up in the era of digital photography and we don’t even print 99% of our own photos. The only people we print photos for anymore are computer illiterate grandparents. Looking at pictures on the computer is normal for her and it makes her happy. Every now and then, she accidentally shoots a picture good enough for me to use on facebook. It’s the whole infinite number of monkeys with an infinite number of typewriters thing.

  *The image on the view finder doesn’t match what’s being photographed but the image on the LCD screen does. The view finder just shows the top half. Most kids take pictures haphazardly and it doesn’t matter, but it’s annoying when you’re actually trying to teach a kid about photo composition. We taught her to size up her photos using the LCD screen. Most of the time she takes pictures of people’s belts instead of their faces, but again, an infinite number of monkeys with an infinite number of typewriters.

  *It eats through batteries like no tomorrow. Buy a charger and rechargeable batteries right away. We found that we needed to replace the batteries almost after every use.

  *I paid about $40 for it and I hemmed and hawed over whether that was a fair price until my mother pointed out to me that when I was a kid, I had a polaroid instant camera (yea instant gratification!!!) and while the camera was cheaper, the film was $8 per package. So when I took pictures of people’s belt buckles, it grated on her nerves. The expense of the film prevented her from buying more film which prevented me from using this camera. If you buy this camera and rechargeable batteries, you’re done. The knowledge that the initial expenditure is going to be it means I pull this camera out regularly and encourage my daughter to use it. I still wouldn’t have paid $60 for it, but for $40 considering it’s digital, it’s a fair deal.

  I purchased this for around $60. We have had this camera now for about 1yr. In the years time, my son has only played with it for 5 mins total. The camera literally sucks down batteries! You may be able to get maybe 5 pic from brand new duracell or energizer batteries. Better off buying a real digital camera and just replacing that when it breaks. Don’t say I didn’t warn you! This camera overall is a POS. Would have given a zero if I could.
